Traveling to Indonesia
Two weeks in Indonesia exploring Bali, Java, and the surrounding islands! With a population of over 270 million spread across more than 17,000 islands, Indonesia is a world unto itself. This was an adventure-packed trip that exceeded all expectations.
Fun fact: Indonesia spans three time zones and is so vast that the distance from one end to the other is roughly the same as from London to Baghdad!
What I Experienced
Bali was my base, but the real highlights came from venturing beyond the tourist zones. Nusa Penida island offered some of the most dramatic landscapes I've ever seen - Broken Beach, with its natural arch and turquoise waters, was absolutely stunning.
The drone captured Indonesia's incredible diversity from above. The towering Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue - one of the world's tallest at 121 meters - rises majestically over Bali's limestone plateau with the ocean beyond. Over Nusa Penida, golden cliffs plunge into churning deep blue waters, waves crashing against ancient rock formations in explosions of white foam.
The adventure to Ijen Volcano on Java was unforgettable. Hiking in the dark to reach the crater before dawn, witnessing the famous blue flames from burning sulfur, and then watching sunrise over the acidic lake - it's one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
Surfing in Bali was another highlight. The waves at South Kuta are perfect for learning, and the surf culture there is incredibly welcoming to beginners. I even captured some footage that I'm still proud of!
Practical Notes
